You are a top class broadcast journalist with a passion for the world of entertainment. 2 years experience is desirable.
You are organised, think on the spot, prioritise and spot a story in any situation – whilst keeping calm under pressure.
You're technically minded and know your way round a radio studio. You have knowledge of ISDNs, cameras, audio recording devices such as Flash mics, marantz and Zoom kits.
You are enthusiastic, flexible, sociable and easy going – whilst always bringing back the goods!

Skills needed:
Your writing is sharp and on point.
You have an excellent on air voice with experience in reading and writing bulletins - and reporting live.
You can do red carpet reporting with ease.
You're able to film interviews and self produce video packages.
And you are speedy and effective at audio and video editing.

Knowledge of all or some the following studio programmes is needed:
Dalet
Burli
Adobe Audition CS6
Final Cut Pro
Adobe Premiere CS6 or CC

And as standard: Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point

If you’re reading this, you’ll know that this kind of role requires someone who can write punchy news stories as well as the in-depth analysis that readers in the market require.

You’ll be maintaining a high standard of editorial content which will keep the magazine and its website as the number one for essential reading in the market, whilst developing an editorial programme which contributes to the commercial success of the brand and its products.  You’ll also be looking to increase reader engagement, develop new initiatives and drive reader registrations whilst ensuring the timely delivery of agreed editorial outputs.

Key activities

  • Plan and produce the editorial content.
  • Produce (and upload to website where appropriate) daily high-quality news.
  • Research and produce feature articles, news, blogs and all other editorial content. Commission content where appropriate.
  • Social media activity, engagement and content dissemination for the brand.
  • Ensure that editorial contributions and costs are kept within the agreed editorial budget.

  • Propose and initiate innovations, such as events, surveys and cross-brand campaigns to stimulate reader interest and to improve profile in the market.

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with other editors and teams across the company.

• Strong working knowledge of the online publishing world. You will need to have passion and a strong understanding of the industry and our mission. Experience working in an online publisher organisation is really preferable.

• An analytical mind and interest in using data to optimize / scale thought leadership

• A love and knack for writing both brief and in-depth content

• Understanding and creating content that aligns with our target audience

The Wolverhampton-based award-winning newspaper publishes six days a week with editions stretching across the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Worcestershire.
 
The chosen apprentices will spend time in four key areas and concentrate on the following:
News reporting - finding and writing accurate and interesting copy, features and online material. Gaining essential reporting skills

  • Sports reporting - match reports, grassroots sports as well as covering the many football teams in the area.
  • Digital journalism - using multi-media platforms to gather news, resource stories and to break news.
  • Creative design - working alongside the editorial artist in page design, graphics and artwork. Use of Photoshop.
 
Training will be provided by the City of Wolverhampton College. Apprentices will be required to attend College once a week at the Paget Road Campus - day to be confirmed. They will be working towards the NCTJ Level 3 Diploma in Journalism Practice.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are working at at least Level 2 in Maths, English and ICT, this will be tested via assessment at college.
 
Successful applicants will be paid National Minimum Wage for their age. They must be prepared to work shifts and sometimes anti-social hours, including weekends, dictated by breaking news or important events.

KEY TASKS

• Conduct research on current and prospective major donors and businesses and present findings in a clear and concise format to enable input into our database


Administration:
• Assist with maintaining the fundraising database, ensuring accuracy and consistency across the records.
• Maintain up-to-date filing systems, both manual and electronic as appropriate
• To maintain accurate and comprehensive records on the fundraising database,
network drives and hard filing systems.

We're looking for experienced freelance sports broadcasters who have a good knowledge of in-play and/or ante post betting to strengthen our team at http://www.inplayradio.co.uk in William Hill's state-of-the-art Broadcast Department in Leeds City Centre.

There are three roles:

Presenters

You will be hosting a five hour sports betting show with a team of betting experts alongside you in the studio and a host of contributors on the line. Betting knowledge is an obvious advantage but not essential.

Pundits

Betting knowledge is essential for the pundits role. You will be expected to either focus on one specific event or sport throughout a programme or 'surf' William Hill's extensive In Play schedule, covering everything from reserve team European football to Volleyball and loads in between.

Producers/Social Media

This role will combine generating telephone guests, conducting interviews, providing a strong and entertaining visibility on social media and some on-air presence too. Betting knowledge is essential.

All three roles are a great opportunity to work in sports speech radio, with plenty of scope to progress within William Hill's innovative Broadcast Department.
